She describes her style as “controlled abstract art,” where colour and movement harmoniously come together. Read more to learn about her background and creative process.
Her background
Christine always had a passion for visual arts, but she only began painting more seriously after she graduated. She sold her first painting to a friend, allowing her to fully acknowledge her artistic potential—and that’s all she needed to take the plunge. Still faithful to this initial painting style, she nonetheless found a way to develop her creations over the years: “I’ve remained true to this style, which I now describe as controlled abstract art, but it has subtly evolved. Straight lines that used to be the backdrop are now increasingly becoming the main focus.”
The artist is most interested in painting, as it allows her to get away from her work as a graphic designer: “As an art director and freelance graphic designer, I mainly turned to acrylic on canvas and marker on paper in a search for authenticity. To move away from the aesthetic nature of graphic design, to move from digital to organic, pixels to pigments. To create with my hands and clear my mind.”
Her process
Guided by her emotions and intuition, Christine loves the freedom art gives her: “I love the freedom to improvise, to create without instructions or limitations. I intuitively let the brush guide me and the colours inspire me to create colourful, abstract pieces. I’m a fan of solid colours, especially neons. These shades are so difficult to print yet work beautifully on canvas. Bright and bold, they create lively, high-contrast pieces.” With just one look, you can instantly feel the life and luminosity emanating from Christine Daigle’s artwork. Art allows her to unwind, and you truly get a sense of that in every one of her pieces.
Her favourite products
Since fluorescent pigments tend to be translucent, Christine particularly likes the opacity of Liquitex’s new, neon acrylic gouache colours. The artist also swears by Apollon canvases, which she loves for their high quality, durability, and the fact that they don’t warp over time.
