How to make 3D art with foamboards

Step 1: Draw your design out on a piece of a paper before you begin. You are going to want to think about how you want things to overlap in advance.

Step 2: Cut 5 pieces of acid-free foamboard to fit the dimensions of your frame.

Step 3: Draw your patterns onto your foamboard pieces, making sure that you have a variety of shapes and sizes to overlap. Draw the center opening a little larger with each foamboard sheet.

Step 4: One piece at a time, cut the shapes of leaves and flowers out of the foamboard from the center to the edges using a craft knife. Make sure to keep the sides of your foamboard sheet intact.

Step 5: Paint the foamboard pieces different hues and colours.

Step 6: Once the paint is dry, draw details and textures with a paint marker

Step 7: Arrange your foamboard pieces once they are dry and insert them into your frame. Place a solid colour piece of foamboard or cardstock at the back, secure it in place and hang it on the wall.

Tips :

Make sure your blades are sharp and replace them when they are dull
Paint the sides of the foamboard if you want or leave them white
Spray paint the frame to coordinate with the art
