Creative Watercolour Practices (EN)

Get creative in the studio! Kathryn will guide you through painting techniques and creative exercises using watercolour paints, artist-grade/student-grade materials and household items. Students will create a series of experimental watercolour paintings on cold-press watercolour paper. Unleash your creativity with everyday items like salt, plastic bags, tooth brushes and more!

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 13 to 99.

Part 1: Get to Know Your Materials

To begin, Kathryn will provide an overview of the materials with visual examples of their applications,  and demonstrate create watercolour painting techniques. 
 

Part 2: Get Creative in the Studio!

In part two, Kathryn will guide you through the step-by-step application of the creative watercolour practices she uses in her art practice. Participants are welcome to explore their artistic agency and create a series of wa-tercolour paintings on paper.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Watercolour paint set
✓ Watercolour paint palette
✓ Watercolour paint brushes (short handle, natural or synthetic flat and round bristles, sizes 2 and up)
✓ Watercolour paper (cold press, 140lbs/300g, recommended size 9”x12”)
✓ Sketchbook or notebook
✓ Watercolour paint set
✓ Painter’s tape (1” width)
✓ Support board (masonite, wood or plastic board, approx. 1-2 inches larger than paper size)
✓ Two water containers (up-cycled glass or plastic jars)
✓ Paper towel or up-cycled cotton fabric
✓ Graphite pencil
✓ Kneaded or white eraser
✓ Cotton swabs
✓ Sea silk sponge
✓ Salt
✓ Personal reference images (online, magazines, calendars, cards, etc.)
✓ Recycled plastic bag
✓ Masking fluid (optional)
✓ Masking fluid applicator (optional)
